Hundreds of Shetlanders marched around Lerwick, Scotland’s most northerly town, shouting ‘Not in our Name’. It was a beautiful day and the demonstration was full of families. We were optimist. We felt our voices counted. We thought our options mattered. The lasses ran ahead playing and singing and I carried our son in a backpack. He was nearly a year old. He’s 13 now, as tall as his mum. We were safe and I wonder to this day just how many families were destroyed in this illegal and obsence war? And why were millions of people just like us unable to stop the war mongers, the stupidity, the carnage, the hatred of the West and the shame of it all
