London

Met wonderful people on the train from Liverpool to London. One couple told me they were going to visit their son in hospital ,he was a soldier and because of an “ACCIDENT”he and two of his fellow serving soldiers were all shot in the foot.
later during the march I was inspired by the fellow marchers of every different sort of human. The vision of many, many young women carrying babies and some toddlers will remain with me forever. As we progressed we were waived at and encouraged by hundreds of office workers from high up balconies.
On the down side we were stopped from crossing the road as traffic lights were left on red for extremely long periods of time, very frustrating, but our spirits were kept high by the many musicians, who were playing as we marched, or even as we were prevented from marching!
I will always be sad that I missed hearing Jessie Jackson’s speech because of the police preventing us to March for long periods.

I had made my own hat which was covered in badges[CND& not in my name badges] and was wearing my CND scarf and I remember talking to two young women of Muslim appearance, they were admiring my scarf then a few young men, friends of theirs, gathered around-this was in Hyde park-near one of the trees which was covered in white handkerchief’s/scarves. We were having a good conversation when suddenly two policemen started to be heavy with the young men who then ran off and the police chased them! Start of conflict for no reason!

It was heartbreaking to witness the sight of very old Muslim men leaning over their prayer mats in hope of no war.

After the end of all the speeches I made my way back to the train and found a seat at the back of the train. The train wasn’t full and after an hour or so I heard a loud voice saying ‘What’s wrong with you, don’t you like our boys”?
I was shocked as I couldn’t understand! I then realised I still had my hat on with CND and ‘not in my name’ badges on.

Now a group of 4/5 soldiers were pushing around where I was sitting. One sat in the empty seat and put his feet on my rucksack and pushed his face into mine-very intimidating as another one grabbed my arm.

I managed to get up and I pulled the communication cord,I was taken into a first class carriage and given refreshments.

I remember that as I was pulling the cord the brave soldiers did a hasty retreat !
Nice way for a British soldier to treat a female pensioner !!

Miserable ending to a wonderful day of solidarity throughout the UK as we all marched through London from our various cities and villages’s in optimism..
